Excellent teachers for local Indonesian students Nov. 8th
Four of the IB HL English B students visited a local school in Indonesia on November 8th. We taught Do-re-mi song and vocabulary from the song and asked to do a crosswords puzzle to grade four students. We sometimes struggled to teach the song since grade four students were very enthusiastic and hard to be handled. However, it seemed like all of them had fun in the class. When we were leaving, they asked us to take selfie, and that was very cute and made me want to visit them again. Although there are many points that could have been improved, it was a great visit! 🙂

Recent plans :)
Due to the October break, Ming, T and Sarah will take kids from Unawal-Huda school, with two teachers to Kidzania on Wednesday, Oct 22th, 2014. Kidzania is a theme playground located in Pacific Place mall for children to perform different vocations. We believe it’s an both educational and enjoyable experience for those young students.

On February 22nd, 2014, Ming and “T” (Xiang Rui) went to Unwanul Huda elementary school again to teach the kids English words about animals. They played cartoon Pororo to help Students remember. Also, they enjoyed Mr. Bean after taught some new words. It is a wonderful experience for students as they rarely touch modern technic and English movies. Both teachers and children spent happy time with each other, see you next time!

On November 23rd, 2013, Mingyao and “T” (Xiang Rui) went to Unwanul Huda elementary school to teach the kids English words describing positions and facial organs. Students had a really high spirit and read after the “teachers” loudly and clearly. It was a wonderful time. In the end, whenever Ming or “T” pointed to an Indonesian word, the young students could translate it to English. They have a really good understanding of the words! We must be good teachers! 😉

Unwanul Huda Elementary School Soccer Cup 2013
On October 26th 2013, a soccer cup was held in Jakarta International
School. Athletes of Grade 4 to 6 from Unwanul Huda Elementary School
came over to JIS soccer field for the UHESSC (Unwanul Huda
Elementary School Soccer Cup). There were four teams of 8 players and
we used playoff format to decide the winner. The whole competition lasted for two hours. In the end, medals were awarded and prizes were distributed.
The grand prizes for the winning team are soccer shoes – donations from
Adidas, which are being organized by Adidas Group Country Manager,
Mr. Wojciech Kur.
Meanwhile, during the match, we offered drinks, chocolate pies, and ice cream. These snacks were made possible through
donations and fund raising from the Polish Business Club (PBC) and its
Chairman, Mr. Andrzej Jakubowski, who sponsored ice cream and all the
medals; Do Young’s friendly company Orion World, who sponsored
Chocopies; Anneesha Uno, who brought milk and Oreos; and Asta’s
friendly company Kino Corporation, who donated Bird’s Nest canned
drinks and two varieties of Snackit Pia snacks.
You can also read the Unwanul Huda Soccer Cup 2013 – full report written by “T” (Xiang Rui Tao) where you will see the best players’ names and photos. More photos and videos can be viewed on JIS Dragontales.

New donations in September 2013
At the Polish Business Club in Jakarta meeting in September 2013, at an auction aimed to raise funds for our cause, an ardent fan of Celtic Glasgow bought a book called “Celtics Triumphant” by Ian Peebels, printed exclusively for the members of the Sportsman Club Book in 1968, thus donating some urgently needed money to pay off the cost of toilet renovations at “our” school. Another guest of the Club donated a substantial amount, too. Thank you, PBC 🙂

Summer renovations at “our” school
During the summer, the toilets at the school we visit were renovated. The money for the renovations was raised by our Service Learning students who wrote passionate proposal letters to solicit donations (and Sarah was the most successful! 🙂 and the initial supervision of the renovation was donated by the Polish Business Club and its Chairman, Mr. Andrzej Jakubowski.
Have a look at the “before” and “after” photos. This year we will focus on teaching the students not only some English but also how to maintain hygiene by making sure they wash their hands after using the toilets.
